The Pentagon develops operated sniper bullets

The problem of developers - to give the chance to snipers to amaze targets, moving on high speeds, in a difficult environment

The agency of perspective workings out at the Ministry of Defence of the USA (DARPA) declared working out of operated bullets for the sniper weapon.

The futuristic project is realised within the limits of the program of "achievement of limiting accuracy of arms" (the code name - EXACTO) which puts a problem maintenance "peak efficiency of sniper divisions at increase of their safety".

As it is informed, experts DARPA develop an operated ammunition for the weapon of calibre of 0,50 inches (12,7 mm). The problem of developers - "to give the chance to snipers to amaze targets, moving on high speeds, in a difficult environment, in particular, at a strong wind". As it is marked in the press release while accuracy of sniper fire "is essentially limited" by casual variables, such as speed and a direction of a wind or a deviation of physical characteristics of a cartridge (including gunpowder and bullets) from the standard. "Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have proved necessity of well prepared and equipped snipers", - the manager of the program confirms.

The program of working out of an operated sniper bullet is conducted in two stages, first of which recently has come to the end with working out of a new ammunition and its test by means of computer modelling. The second stage provides creation of physical samples of an operated shell and testing of complete system EXACTO.
